The poor air quality has a name:  Harmattan. Essentially in the winter, the dry, humid air causes fog that combines with the wind blown dirt from the Sahara Desert. It is really hard on the eyes!! Joy is determined to learn how to do this! Negotiating for "Ghanian AC".
